Step up is a three years project but its ambition is to be only the beginning of a deep change we want to reach through the scale up and replication in future in other communities, in deprived and poor context in Ghana and in other countries.
The sustainability of such project will be guaranteed by the creation of social cooperatives and the continuous training of trainers that the young ladies will support once they will be part of the cooperative we will register.
Sew Your Future (SYF) believes that the consciousness of the women in their capacities is the basis for their empowerment and the wellness of their children.
The first phase of Step up started in December 2022 thanks to the support of “Otto per Mille della Chiesa Valdese” (https://www.ottopermillevaldese.org) in collaboration with DUNK Grassroots (www.dunkgrassroots.org) and it replicates the consolidated sewing course for 12 at risk girls, adding activities and skills that will allow them to enter the Ghanian market. The first year closed successfully and the second phase has started on 1st February 2024. The main character of the project will be the cooperative that will see the real “Step up” of the girls that will reach another level of competencies and responsibility.
The young ladies will receive a school support for their children to leave them in a safe kindergarten to be able to concentrate during the lessons. Furthermore, the national insurance will be paid for themselves and their children.
